Sermons
At IBC, the preaching of the word is
foundational to our mission and ministries and central to our worship.
I consider preaching to be the highest calling and my most vital task
as senior pastor of IBC. As a servant of Christ and one "entrusted with
the secret things of God" I seek to be faithful in this overwhelming
task (1 Corinthians 4:1-2).
The sermon manuscripts on this page were written in preparation for the
delivery of the sermons, which are preached extemporaneously from an
outline, which is supplied to the congregation on Sunday mornings.
Because of Sunday morning time limitations and the spontaneity of the
moment of delivery, these manuscripts contain information not given in
the delivered sermons, such as Scripture and secondary source
references and perhaps quotes in full that were abridged in the
preached sermon. So, in these manuscripts you can read the longer
version!
Hopefully these manuscripts will be helpful in your personal study, as
you reflect on the sermon and are encouraged to do further study of a
certain text or topic, or check out a reference or source of special
interest to you. Also, I supply these manuscripts for group studies,
such as IBC's home fellowships. Particularly for this study group use I
have written questions for reflection and discussion at the end of each
sermon. My hope is that home groups that choose to utilize these
sermons and questions can thereby interest and engage non-members and
even non-believers in attending the worship services at IBC when these
sermons are preached.
I invite you to contact me with any questions about any of these
sermons or with a request for our pastoral care ministry at IBC.

2009 sermon series:
A Christian
Counter-Culture
Thirty
years ago, well-known English pastor
and theologian, John RW Stott, published his commentary on Jesus’
Sermon on the
Mount (Matthew 5-7) under the title, “Christian Counter-Culture.” Three decades later,
followers of Jesus
Christ here in Western Europe find ourselves in a post-Christian
culture and
are aware as perhaps never before that to follow Jesus Christ as Lord
demands
that we think and live counter-culturally.
As
the Lord continues to lead, I will
preach during much of Year 2009 from Matthew’s account of Jesus’
teachings to
his disciples on a counter-cultural life that pleases God and also
makes a
difference in this fallen world. I
pray
that you will join me as we together seek to examine what Jesus tells
us about
such an amazing life. And
by the way, a
counter-cultural life described in the Sermon on the Mount, depends
absolutely
on the power of the Holy Spirit. May
God
enable us to live such a life in 2009!
