Library
The IBC Library has completed work on a substantial collection reorganization project.
Begun last year, the project allowed library staff to deal with organizational problems which had cropped up due to overcrowding on the library’s stacks. The end result is a collection that is not only arranged better, but a library which has room to grow. We are hopeful that these changes will make the library’s collection easier for our members to use.
The first step of the project was weeding. Many books were removed from circulation. Some worn, some little used and some that were off topic or of a non-Christian nature. Older editions, doubles and other super-ceded books were also removed. Most of the religious materials weeded from the library were sold during our book-sale last year raising much needed funds. Any weeded books that were not sold were stored for our next library book sale.
The second step of the project was reorganization. Weeding opened up new space on many shelves that enabled large moves involving many books. For example, all Bible, Theology and Applied Theology books are now shelved in the last corridor of the library. Similarly, all Spirituality, Church History and Interdisciplinary books are in the middle corridor. Children, Junior Fiction, Ficton and Multi Media are now shelved together in the front of the library. For your convenience, a Library Floor Plan is available to help users negotiate the changes in shelving arrangements.
The final step of the project now involves a number of additional small-scale improvements and incorporating donations succesfully. Over the next several months, we will continue to streamline the IBC collection. One goal is to arrange the Bible Study books according to the order in which they appear in the Bible. Biographies also will be re-arranged, not by author, but by subject. Additionally, donations to the church library are encouraged. Your donations are always useful, either helping to expand the current IBC collection or else directly resulting in funds raised through future book sales.
We thank Our Lord who gives us wisdom and continually strengthens us to go forward with this project and who provided the additional people with the right gifts to join the library team.
For those of you who have not yet found their way to the library, we encourage you with this thought: "Entire books have been filled with the testimonies of people whose quest for Jesus Christ was initiated and often fulfilled through reading a Gospel tract, a portion of the Scriptures, or a Christian book. As we listen to the testimonies of those who have found Christ from many different backgrounds in all parts of the world, we discover that in the majority of cases literature played some part in their conversion."
